Every Nook And Cranny: Four Spots In Your Home You’re Forgetting To Clean

Cleaning never ends. It feels just as you finished cleaning, another mess has formed (especially if you have young children). Despite constantly cleaning, there are four common spots in your home that nearly every forgets about during their cleaning regime. While these spots are easy to forget, they still need to be cleaned at least two to four times a year to prevent dust, bacteria, pet dander, and other pollutants from entering your HVAC system.

Behind the Sofa

Behind and under your sofa are likely littered with crumbs, dust, pet toys, batteries, and other common household items. If something is missing in your home, and it’s not between the cushions, it’s best to look behind and underneath your sofa. During your next cleaning marathon, take the vacuum or broom underneath and behind your sofa. You might be amazed (or disgusted) by what you find.

On Top of Bookcases

Dust likes to hide in high places. Short or tall, your bookcase shelves are going to collect dust. If you can’t see the top of your bookcase, there is likely more dust than there is on the shelves you can see. Try running one finger across the top of your bookcase to see if you collect dust. If your finger isn’t clean, it’s time to run a duster across the top.

Under the Bed

Similar to the sofa, plenty of items have found a semi-permanent home under your bed. Shoes, jewelry, belts, socks, and more that just “grew legs and walked out” probably crawled under your bed at some point. Be sure to check for small items before using a vacuum. You don’t want to lose an expensive earring in your vacuum.

Around Lamp Shades

Lamps are great for providing light and collecting dust. Can you remember the last time you cleaned your lampshade? If you can’t recall a time or it’s been longer than six months, it’s safe to say your lamp shade has quite a collection of dust on it. Run a duster around the lamp shade to remove any dust.
